Obliterating indifference

We believe that in today’s super-saturated marketplace a brand has to stand for something meaningful, relevant and motivating to succeed. Indifference is the enemy.

Obliterating indifference

We believe that in today’s super-saturated marketplace a brand has to stand for something meaningful, relevant and motivating to succeed. Indifference is the enemy.

The brands that matter will provoke an emotional response. If you don’t make people care, you won’t earn market share. Trying to be all things to everyone is no longer a viable business strategy. Take a stand for what you believe in and let your audience select itself.

That’s where we come in. We can help you obliterate indifference by discovering and articulating the authentic and compelling story that separates your brand from its competitors. We then amplify this story across every point of contact you have with your audiences.

Our manifesto

Incorporate Design is not just our name – it is our rallying cry. We are on a mission. These are our promises to each other and our clients. If we don’t live up to them, feel free to read us the riot act.

Overcome adversity with ingenuity

We promise to be relentlessly curious, intelligently inventive and resourceful – delivering original thinking and compelling ideas that delight our clients and their audiences. We believe in creating bespoke solutions tailored to each project’s specific requirements. We solve real business problems using effective design thinking and creative craftsmanship.

Make time to be meticulous

We will be thorough and conscientious. We work hard to make sure things are right. We believe that good branding is not just about the glamour of a high-profile application, but that there is a real business advantage to be gained by making sure that the granular detail also exemplifies the brand promise of each client.

Be transparent in business and with others

Honesty and clarity are at the core of everything we do. We accept responsibility for our actions. We tell it like it is and try to keep things simple. Transparency will manifest itself in our detailed and explicit proposals, our straightforward pricing and our desire to conduct all our conversations in a respectfully frank and open manner.

Collaborate enthusiastically

We believe that the best results are born out of a meeting of minds between client and agency. Working together builds the understanding that forms a springboard for more courageous and effective solutions. We aim to create enduring partnerships where we become a trusted part of each client’s team.

Be pragmatic

We never forget that we are working to effect a positive, meaningful and tangible change in the fortunes of each client’s business, brand or campaign initiative. We will always endeavour to achieve the best possible outcome for the project. We don’t do ‘creative prima donna’; we just get it done.

Demonstrate commitment

We love what we do. Because we’re a family firm, both in ownership and outlook, the depth of commitment to each other and our clients goes deeper than most. From supportive client service to inspired creativity, we go above and beyond to make sure we deliver what’s necessary to make a project memorable for everybody involved.

Ed Bowes

Managing Director

Work: I have worked in a client-facing role since joining the business in April 2002, helping to forge close relationships with our longest-standing clients and develop new business to ensure everyone is kept busy and the agency continues to grow. I am particularly passionate about client communication and relationship building; genuinely doing everything we can to make our clients’ hectic lives easier. I also enjoy the strategic side of the business and identifying how we can keep improving and learning at all times.

Play: I love playing or watching most sports, specifically cricket, rugby, horse racing, and golf. But with three young children aged between 3 and 8, they pretty much take up any time away from work!

Matt Bowes

Managing Director

Work: Things have changed a fair bit since I joined the business at the beginning of 2002. The rapidly changing world of technology has meant we have more ways of communicating than ever before. The demand from the customer, in particular, has meant there is huge pressure on brands to do this in a consistent and integrated way. However, the challenges for us as a business are still the same, to create lasting relationships and deliver the best value we can to our clients. I have a love for typography and photography in particular (although more from an appreciation point rather than my own personal skill set!) and enjoy nothing more than nailing a tricky brief and delivering simple solutions to complex problems. Hearing from a client that something we’ve worked on for them has had a direct, tangible, positive outcome is what drives me every single day.

Play: Travel, family/friends, and sport take up a large chunk of my time outside of work. However, having two kids under three has meant that priorities have started to shift somewhat!

Shaughn McGurk

Creative Director

Work: There are two mantras that guide my approach to professional creativity. The first is, ‘Context, Content, Creativity’. I don’t believe in making design for design’s sake, it needs to be appropriate, meaningful and engaging as well as great to look at. The second is, ‘Have a great idea and craft it to perfection’. Technology makes it easy to achieve an ‘acceptably mediocre’ result. At Incorporate we aim much higher than that and we encourage our clients to as well. On a practical, day-to-day level, I’m here to support, encourage and guide our experienced creative team to achieve their very best work. I also work with the management team to make sure we are asking the right questions of both ourselves and our clients: scoping engaging briefs that help lead to interesting solutions; pushing to achieve successful outcomes to projects from both a strategic and creative point of view.

Play: Outside of work I am, first and foremost, a happy husband and father to two amazing children – but when I’m not helping with homework or being a dad taxi – I love to ride motorcycles, play the drums, remodel houses and cook food from all edges of the Mediterranean. Apart from my family, the four things of which I am most proud are: being awarded a coveted place in the D&AD annual; driving an Italian Job Mini on the roof of the Fiat Building in Turin; having an album on iTunes and Spotify; and a best lap time of the Nürburgring Nordschliefe of 10 minutes and 14 seconds.

Gemma Hicks

Studio Manager

Work: With a background in the creative industry, I understand the time pressure associated with design projects, whether that’s a print deadline or getting those final amends sorted. Organised and a self-confessed to-do list writer, I ensure that studio time is managed efficiently. I see all sides of a project, from both the designers and the clients. One of my favourite parts of the job is delivering work on time and receiving feedback that the team did a great job.

Play: Not one to sit still, I enjoy getting outside as much as possible, whether that’s going for a run or camping around Cornwall. My best adventures are with my trusty furry Cairn Terrier companion, Bella. If it’s a rainy day you can find me painting in my studio at home, where I'm currently working on my impasto oils.

Hannah Sprake

Project Manager

Work: With a customer service and partnership development background, I enjoy getting to know different clients, building relationships and understanding what is important to them. I have a passion for uncovering meaningful insight and analysing critical trends, enabling us to effectively resolve client challenges and grow their business. I relish managing projects; I love nothing more than creating a detailed project plan and working with others to successfully achieve agreed objectives.

Play: Outside of work I can mostly be found playing, coaching or watching hockey. Off the field, I love being creative at home or pottering out in my garden.

Vanessa Coleman

Senior Designer

Work: I’m passionate about working with clients to find the best design solution to answer their brief, but also pushing them to discover the full potential of their project and therefore getting more from a campaign as a result.

Play: Despite the digital revolution, I have a secret plan to steal a room in my house and turn it into a dark room so I can once again develop my own photographs. When time allows I can also be found sailing, swimming and treading the boards, now having five amateur plays under my belt.

Debbie Heald

Senior Designer

Work: I joined incorporate way back in 2002 (I am now part of the furniture!). I love being part of a team, bouncing ideas around and I enjoy the variety of work we produce – from websites and brochures to branding and exhibition graphics – the mix keeps things fresh! I like to keep up to date with design trends and new software and strive to achieve the best possible outcome for each project.

Play: I took up running a few years ago, becoming a regular at my local parkrun, as well as taking part in numerous events and charity runs. When I’m not dashing about I enjoy the odd ski trip, horse riding, music, great books and walking my two dogs.

Roland Koves

Lead Production Designer

Work: As Lead Production Designer, I support the senior creatives and directors, contributing to various projects with my creative flair and technical knowledge in print, web and 3D. I also ensure that the integrity of brand guidelines is maintained throughout the proof stages of the projects. One of the many advantages of working at Incorporate Design is that it is a very close-knit team and there is plenty of room for personal and professional development.

Play: Outside of work I enjoy cycling, reading books on topics of various sorts, but in particular about cultural anthropology, sociology, and art. I also have a keen interest in the creation of computer-generated imagery (CGI).

Nick Dudley-Williams

Non-executive Director

Work: Nick is a commercially-driven, through-the-line strategic consultant with a proven track record of building businesses, building people, and building brands. His experience includes being Group Director at Cubo for nearly a decade and he now runs Barfly, a global strategic drinks consultancy that he founded 3 years ago.

Nick works with Incorporate in a non-executive capacity, advising and collaborating on all agency matters and is a valued member of our team.

Nicky Bowes

Non-executive Director

Work: I love organising, analysing, keeping clients happy and building lasting relationships. What makes me happy is when a client comes back to say we are legends/superstars because we’ve done something that has made their life infinitely easier, whether it’s through a fab design or some project management that has saved them time.

Play: I have a passion for travel and sport (often together) – I’ve played cricket in Italy, watched rugby in Jersey and been sailing in Corfu in the last year alone.

Could it be you?
